Valentine’s Day — the day of love. Everywhere you look, you see hearts and couples and romance. It is absolutely wonderful, but why is it limited to just romantic love? Lately, Galentine’s Day has made headlines so that women can celebrate their love for their girlfriends and it’s great to turn the focus from just couples to the other people in your life! What about taking a day to celebrate self-love? It’s so important to celebrate those around you but equally important to celebrate how much you love yourself.
There is nothing wrong with taking the day (or week) to step back and show yourself a little extra appreciation. Maybe you’ve noticed that gorgeous bouquet of flowers when you hit the grocery store. Buy them! You deserve them! There’s no reason to wait for someone else to spoil you! When you wake up and see those beauties on your counter, you won’t regret it!
It’s all about putting aside the thought that someone else needs to shower you with affection instead of realizing that you’re completely capable of showering yourself with it! It doesn’t matter how you do it, but you should make time to spoil yourself this week.
Whether it’s buying yourself flowers, taking a relaxing bubble bath and sipping a glass of wine, staying in your pjs and watching a chick-flick, or just saying “no” to someone, it all counts. Taking some time to break a sweat and workout is an excellent way to treat yourself. And, making/ordering a healthy meal is a wonderful reward for your body and all it does for you!
You’ve heard the phrase “you can’t pour from an empty cup” and it’s true. We’ve even mentioned it in previous blogs. Sometimes people think that making themselves a priority is selfish, but it’s actually the opposite. If you’re not in a good place, how can you truly give others what they need? People deserve the best you can give them. If you’re only operating at a percentage of yourself, you’ll have even less to give those you love.
No matter how you choose to do it, make some time this week to be your own valentine. Choose to make this holiday about yourself as well as those around you! Because, you can’t truly love others unless you love yourself, too!
