Member Spotlight: Tayna Johnson

This week, we are learning about Tanya Johnson. She is so dedicated to her time at Vessel and it has made an impression on others in the studio— so much so that she came recommended as this month’s spotlight from another member! Meeting her has been a pleasure and it’s amazing to hear how much she has gained during her time with us! Feel free to stop by and say hello when you see her, we promise you’ll feel right at home talking to her.

Tell us a little about yourself. Name, background, family, etc..

I’m Tanya Johnson. I am originally from South Louisiana (the Acadiana area). My husband and I have lived in Kingwood since 1997. I am a part-time professor at Lone Star College and a full-time wife and mother.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy watching movies and being outdoors.

My daughter and I are members of NCL-Kingwood which is a philanthropic organization. She and I work on philanthropic activities together.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? 🙂

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

Do you have an interesting fact you’d like to share?

I had to give this one some thought, so here goes. Fun fact, my parents were the first to speak English in their families. They learned it at school. My grandparents on up only spoke French. This was common in South Louisiana. And yes, my husband and I both cook Cajun food all the time. That’s pretty much all we know how to cook. I cannot make a meatloaf to save my life.

What brought you to Vessel Pilates and how did it stand out to you?

It was time I made a change in my life regarding my health. My balance was way off, and I was losing myself. I did not see a bright future for my physical health and well-being. Since joining Vessel and training with Mara, I have seen an intense turnaround in my balance and energy level. I am slowly, but surely starting to see a physical change as well.

How long have you been going to Vessel?

January 2, 2023

How often do you attend classes?

I try to attend between 4-8 classes per week, schedule permitting. In the past I have not made fitness a priority. I am 51 now, so if I want to make a change in my life, I must do it now.

If you were to describe our studio to someone who had never heard of it, what would you say?

The instructors, equipment, and facilities are amazing and so welcoming from the moment you walk through the door. Literally, everybody knows your name. The studio is clean and beautifully decorated. I never feel self-conscious. The instructors take time to show you how to correctly do the movements so that you get the most impact from your workout. There are so many activities to experience at Vessel. Yoga, meditation with Sarah (which is awesome), Pilates, and strength training with Mara. Vessel is the total package with a great vibe.
